Second Person Singular (Grove Press), the third novel from acclaimed Arab Israeli writer Sayed Kashua, is now available in paperback — making it much more affordable to become familiar with Kashua’s unique literary voice. The novel follows two Arab Israelis: a young social worker from humble roots, and a prosperous lawyer (6-8-12 AJW). In his review for the Forward, Ranen Omer-Sherman wrote that the novel illuminates the characters’ “fraught condition as insiders and outsiders and their painful struggle to create a life of meaning.” Kashua, who also created the Israeli TV show Arab Labor, was warmly received at the Sabes JCC in March to celebrate the 20th annual Minneapolis Jewish Film Festival. — E.E.B.
