One of the most appealing and quirkily engaging of the young singer-songwriters, Regina Spektor is creating a buzz with her new album, Far (Sire). She recently performed the song “Laughing With” (“No one laughs at God in a hospital, no one laughs at God in a war”) on the Late Show with David Letterman. Far, Spektor’s follow-up to the gold album Begin to Hope, features some top-notch producers, including Jeff Lynne, of Electric Light Orchestra fame. The Jewish thrush, who emigrated to America from Russia in 1989, also appears on the cover of the July-August issue of JVibe magazine and is interviewed about her life and music. — M.S.
