A hasidic woman’s struggle to break free

St. Louis Park native Sharon Isbin, a Grammy Award-winning classical guitarist, has released a new album of British folksongs (4-3-09 AJW). Journey to the New World (Sony Masterworks) features folk legend Joan Baez and violin virtuoso Mark O’Connor. The album includes two world premieres, “Joan Baez Suite,” written for Isbin by John Duarte, and O’Connor’s “Strings and Threads Suite.” Baez provides vocals on “Wayfaring Stranger” and “Go ’Way from My Window.” Baez said, “Sharon’s exquisite playing allowed me to revisit and fall in love with these songs all over again.” For information, visit: www.sharonisbin.com. — E.E.
