Craig Breslow, who plied his trade in the Twins bullpen for a time, has moved on to Oakland. But Jewish baseball fans will always remember another lefty who made a bit of baseball and Jewish history when he sat out a World Series opener, in Minnesota, in observance of Yom Kippur. The decision by Sandy Koufax not to pitch on Oct. 6, 1965, against the Minnesota Twins, is one of the stories recounted in You Never Heard of Sandy Koufax?! (Schwartz & Wade Books). Author Jonah Winter and illustrator André Carrilho have created an entertaining book for kids and adults with this heartfelt tribute to perhaps the greatest left-handed pitcher in baseball history. — M.S.
