International Film Festival to include Jewish-themed flicks

Six films with Jewish themes will be part of the 27th annual Minneapolis-St. Paul International Film Festival, which will run April 18-30. All films will be screened at the St. Anthony Main Theatre, 115 Main St., Minneapolis, unless otherwise noted.

• Win or Lose: A Summer Camp Story is an entertaining and enduring documentary about a classic Jewish boys summer camp. The film will be screened 7:45 p.m. Friday, April 17.

• Two Lives Plus One is a French film showing one woman’s explorations of herself, her family and the Jewish heritage that binds them together. The film will be screened 4:45 p.m. Saturday, April 18 at Oak Street Cinema, 309 Oak St. S.E., Minneapolis; and 5:15 p.m. Tuesday, April 28.

• Forgotten Transports: To Estonia documents the odyssey of a group of Czech-Jewish women who survived a series of lesser-known concentration camps. The film will be screened 5:10 p.m. Thursday, April 23; and 12:45 p.m. Saturday, April 25.

• When her new neighbor, the Israeli defense minister, moves in, Salma, a Palestinian widow, is ordered to cut down her lemon grove for security reasons in Lemon Tree. She fights all the way to the Israel Supreme Court. The film will be screened 7:45 p.m. Thursday, April 23; and 2:30 p.m. Sunday, April 26.

• An offensive hand gesture on Holocaust Memorial Day sets in motion a tragic series of events in Foul Gesture, a gripping Israeli revenge drama. The film will be screened 4:15 p.m. Sunday, April 26; and 9 p.m. Tuesday, April 28.

• Defamation focuses on the journey of a young man who has grown up in Israel without experiencing anti-Semitism. He embarks on a quest to find out what it is and how it affects people. The film will be screened on May 3, with further details forthcoming.
