The centenary celebration of Abdu’l-Baha’s visit to St. Paul and his talk on spiritual education will take place 7 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 20 in the Weyerhauser Memorial Chapel at Macalester College, 1600 Grand Ave., St. Paul.
Abdu’l-Baha’s visit to St. Paul was part of a 239-day speaking tour that took him to 50 cities and towns in the United States.
According to an article that was published in the Minneapolis Morning Tribune on Sept. 23, 1912, Abdu’l-Baha spoke on “Moses and the Mission of Jesus Christ” at Temple Shaari Tov. His talk was described as a “plea for peace among all religions and sects.” (American Jewish World founder Rabbi Samuel Deinard was the spiritual leader of Shari Tov, which is now called Temple Israel.)
He also spoke at the home of Drs. Clement and Leona Woolson, founders of the St. Paul Baha’i community, about the importance of material and spiritual education.
The Sept. 20 event will include a reading of Abdu’l-Baha’s talk that he gave at the Woolsons’ home and a Q&A. Refreshments will be served.
