Yoav (Avi Shnaidman), a five-year-old poet of elliptical romantic verses, entrances Nira (Sarit Larry), the titular character in The Kindergarten Teacher, which is available on DVD and Blu-ray from Kino Lorber. The quirky and engaging film, in Hebrew with English subtitles, by director Nadav Lapid (Policeman) follows the teacher’s increasingly obsessive relationship with her gifted young student. Nira’s usually orderly life, with her job, husband and two children, careens off the rails. Also, Israeli soul singer and actor Ester Rada, who recently played the Cedar with her band (9-11-15 AJW), appears in the film as Yoav’s nanny. The film includes nudity and some rough language, so it’s about a kid but not for kids. — M.S.
