Renowned singer Neshama Carlebach will be the Musician-in-Residence this weekend at Temple Israel in Minneapolis. “A Spiritual Journey of Soulful Music” will feature Carlebach during services on Friday and Saturday, May 20-21.

Carlebach continues the musical legacy of her father, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach. “From the moment I was old enough to know I was alive, I knew I wanted to perform,” she says. “I trained as a singer and actor from when I was five years old, and began singing with my father, Rabbi Shlomo Carlebach, of blessed memory, when I was fifteen. Never in my lifetime did I imagine that I was developing the strength, knowledge and skill to follow in his footsteps…. My father always said that when we sing, it’s like we’re praying twice. When I am on stage I experience prayer in the deepest sense.”

Here is the schedule of Shabbat events:

Friday, May 20, 6 p.m. — Shabbat service with Neshama Carlebach and the Nefesh band.

7:30 p.m. — Congregational Shabbat dinner and sing-a-long with Rabbi Sim Glaser, Cantor Barry Abelson and Mark Bloom.
Reservations are required for $20 fish/vegetarian dinner or $7 child pasta dinner.
