JFCS, Sabes JCC to host celebration featuring performers with disabilities

Temple Israel’s Rabbi Simeon ‘Sim’ Glaser dies at 67

Jewish Family and Children’s Service of Minneapolis (JFCS) and the Sabes JCC will host “Our Voices — Our Abilities: A Jewish Disability Awareness Month Celebration” 2:30 to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 10 in the theatre at the JCC, 4330 Cedar Lake Rd. S., St. Louis Park. The event will also mark February as Jewish Disability Awareness Month (JDAM).
“Our Voices — Our Abilities” will be a community-wide celebration of the accomplished musical and artistic talents of local community members who have disabilities. It is described as “an intimate look into a world of which too few of us are aware, presented by the people who live there.”
Performers will tell their own stories through a variety of media, including music, spoken word, dance and visual arts. Among those featured will be Chris Savitt, who has the ability to hear a song and play it completely by ear; and Rebecca Fogel, who has autism and loves music and singing (she is the daughter of professional singer Arne Fogel).
