The American Jewish World talked yesterday with renowned Israeli troubadour and peace activist David Broza. The story will appear in the AJW’s March 14 edition.
Broza returns to the Dakota Jazz Club on April 2. He will be playing his classic songs and material from his new album, East Jerusalem/West Jerusalem (S-Curve Records), which was produced by Steve Earle and Steve Greenberg, and features talented Israeli and Palestinian musicians, and Wyclef Jean (formerly of the hip hop group the Fugees), who co-wrote and sings on the album’s title track. The album was recorded at the Sabreen studio in Sheikh Jarrah, a neighborhood in East Jerusalem.
In addition to his original compositions (mainly with English lyrics), Broza performs songs by Pink Floyd, Elvis Costello and Cat Stevens. And there’s the Nick Lowe song “(What’s So Funny ‘Bout) Peace, Love and Understanding,” which most people know from Elvis Costello’s rendition. The song features the Jerusalem Youth Chorus, which is comprised of high school students from East and West Jerusalem. Here’s the video for the song:
