Adath USY (Grades 9-12), Kadima (Grades 7-8) and Maccabees (Grades 4-6) are the youth programs of Adath Jeshurun Congregation, as well as monthly meetings for Rosh Hodesh for eighth-twelfth grade girls and Shevet for eighth-twelfth grade boys. In addition there is a Teen Heschel Society Study Group. The Youth Department provides the opportunity for social, educational, social action and Israel-related programs throughout the year. We also strive to provide leadership development opportunities for our youth. The Youth Department is responsible for the production of the Adath Family Purim Carnival with games, activities and the silent auction. Additionally, Adath USY and Kadima host a Saturday evening called Parents Night Out — Camp USY. We participate in regional and international conventions, and Israel trips, and provide many other programs.

Our younger students have opportunities planned by the youth group advisor to create community through grade-level activities that are planned by our youth group coordinators. Our high school students are members of BeSTY (Bet Shalom Temple Youth), which is affiliated with the international Reform Youth Movement called NFTY (North American Federation of Temple Youth). NFTY hosts quarterly retreats called kallot, and many of our students are encouraged to attend Olin-Sang-Ruby Union Institute (OSRUI), our movement’s summer camp in Oconomowoc, WI, where Rabbi Locketz, Rabbi Cohen and Cantor Havilio serve as faculty members.

Troop 738 gives boys, ages 11 through 18, a chance to experience scouting and the great outdoors through the Boy Scouts of America. Troop 738 is chartered by the Sabes JCC and is aligned with its values and vision, and it is therefore fully inclusive of the broad spectrum of our community. The lessons learned are more important than rank advancement or merit badges. Scouting teaches many skills, including leadership, and gives recognition to the young men and volunteers for their accomplishments and their efforts. Boy Scout Troop 738 is a member of the Northern Star Council, the mission and focus of which is “to provide a supportive environment for all young people, regardless of background or circumstance, designed to foster personal growth.”

As a founding troop of the new Scouts BSA program, Troop 5738 gives girls, ages 11 through 18, a chance to experience scouting through the nationally recognized Boy Scouts of America program. The Sabes Center Minneapolis offers a range of youth fitness opportunities from youth karate to basketball to baton twirling. The Sabes JCC’s Youth Performance Program is an innovative and unique program that teaches the fundamentals of theater, music and dance in an inclusive environment for children Grades 3 and up. Plus, the JCC offers special full-day and mini-camp programs during most school vacations, taking advantage of the JCC facility and all it has to offer, plus exciting field trips and special programs.

The Capp Center St. Paul offers a variety of programs for children and teens Grades K-12. Club J after-school program offers a combination of structured activities and free-choice time to provide a stimulating environment for your child. Club J supports the development of a positive self-image by offering homework assistance, large motor play in the gym or outdoors on our playground, small motor play, age-appropriate activities and weekly access to the JCC swimming pool. Additional program highlights include musical theater productions, teen employment opportunities, school release day programs and special evening and weekend events.

The Minnesota JCC provides opportunities for every Jewish teen in the Twin Cities to connect to meaningful opportunities and engage in Jewish programming that meets them where they are. Each year over 100 teens spend their summers working at our summer day camps, learning leadership skills and making lifelong friends. With over 150 members, our BBYO NorthStar region continues to be the fastest-growing BBYO community in the country. The JCC is dedicated to ensuring its growth well into the future by helping AZA and BBG bring together teens from all across the area to build communities that value tikkun olam, Jewish tradition, love for fellow Alephs and BBGs, and connection to Israel. Our teens engage with one another through local, regional and international programming as well as summer travel programs all across the world, with many choosing to travel to Israel.

NCSY is the premier organization dedicated to connecting, inspiring and empowering Jewish teens, and encouraging passionate Judaism through Torah and tradition. Senior NCSY is a co-ed group open to all Jewish teens of high school age, regardless of religious background or affiliation. JSU (Jewish Student Union) is a student-led Jewish culture club facilitated by NCSY that runs after school in public schools throughout the Twin Cities. Junior NCSY is open to sixth through eighth graders. We offer many conventions throughout the year as well as numerous monthly activities. The award-winning Temple of Aaron Youth Department is composed of youth from second to 12th grade. We have programming for all of our groups, both within our building and in the greater Twin Cities community. We also work with USCJ for regional and national programs where teens from different organizations get together and renew friendships from summer camps. USY (8th-12th) is our youth-led group that teaches leadership skills that will be used long after the students graduate. Temple Israel Minneapolis — Kids Next Dor (KiND)
For learners in grades 3-5, KiND unites youth through fun experiences that promote the passing on of our Jewish knowledge and values l’dor vador — from generation to generation. KiND participants come together in this endeavor to laugh, eat, play and bond with each other in a celebration of community and friendship.

TIMSY provides a network for our youth during middle school, providing social and leadership opportunities as students reach the B’nai Mitzva years.
Temple Israel Minneapolis — Program for Temple Youth (TIPTY)
TIPTY provides religious, social action and social programming for our ninth-12th graders, including serving our community through special projects, leading High Holiday services and more! Our teens also have the opportunity to travel for different youth group retreats throughout the year. TIPTY is a member of the North American Federation of Temple Youth (NFTY).
