A new opportunity for inclusion that grew out of our Tikvah program, Shiluv provides opportunities for campers with various types of challenges and disabilities to live in cabins with their peers. Campers receive additional staff supervision and participate in the day-to-day life of their eidah (age group), which enhances our entire camp community.
We also offer the Atzmayim Vocational Program for high school graduates. Participants in the Atzmayim program have the opportunity to work at a job in town and learn independent living skills with the support of our staff and job coaches.

Sha’arim is the centralized agency for Jewish children and young adults with special needs who wish to receive a Jewish education. Sha’arim partners with Bais Yaakov High School, Bet Shalom, Chabad Hebrew School, Talmud Torah of Minneapolis, Temple Israel, Torah Academy, and JHAP. Sha’arim provides students and their families the opportunity to be included and mainstreamed into the regular classroom setting by providing one-on-one instruction and modifications and adaptations within the classroom setting. We provide teacher training in the area of special needs and communitywide workshops. We have been providing service since 1999 and today are partnering with more than 175 children and adults throughout these programs to help include them along with typical peers.
Sha’arim — Darkaynu (Our Way) Program
Sha’arim’s Darkaynu (Our Way) In the Schools Program provides students with more profound needs the ability to be mainstreamed in Jewish educational programs with 1:1 support and a modified curriculum and experience that best suits the individual’s needs.
The Darkaynu program for adults offers an informal educational and social experience for adults wishing to have a connection to their Jewish heritage amongst their Jewish peers.
Sha’arim — Friends ’N Fun Program
Sha’arim’s Friends ’N Fun Teen Club Program collaborates with Twin Cities Jewish teens to provide both atypical and neurotypical participants with guided social activities on a monthly basis. Teen and adult volunteers provide guidance and support in fun social settings to help develop and foster lasting friendships among the participants.
The Friends ’N Fun program for adults provides social opportunities for adults with special needs to come together monthly and enjoy each other’s company in a guided social setting.
Sha’arim — Vocational Training Program
Our vocational training program provides each trainee with an individualized skills-building track that could help prepare them for employment. During this vocational training experience, they have the opportunity to try their hands in different areas and uncover their natural strengths as well as build some new ones. Sha’arim currently partners with five business locations in the Twin Cities that provide an opportunity for our trainees to learn real on-site job skills with the help of their peer support. Each trainee comes with 1:1 peer support and works toward their goals in a vocational training setting.
