B’Yachad is a Sunday religious school program for children in kindergarten through second grade. We want children to appreciate their Judaism through study of Torah, God, tikkun olam, t’filla, hagim, Israel and Ivrit. We want our program to contribute to a strong foundation allowing children to develop and thrive as they progress through their Jewish studies. Havaya K’tana is a twice-monthly program of interactive Jewish exploration that takes place on Shabbat for children in kindergarten through fourth grade. Through treasure hunts, games and group activities, Jewish prayers, history and values come alive for the participants. A highlight is their participation in the Torah parade in the main sanctuary, shaking hands and wishing the congregation Shabbat Shalom. Guests are always welcome.

Shabbat Morning Program (SMP) is the cornerstone of educating Adath Jeshurun’s young congregants for full participation in synagogue life. All children entering fifth grade and above who plan to celebrate Bar/Bat Mitzva at Adath Jeshurun are required to attend SMP.

Bar/Bat Mitzvah Training begins in the fifth grade year with our TaRBuT program. TaRBuT is an acronym for Tefillot (prayers), Ruah (spirit), B’rakhot (blessings) and Torah. It is in session on most Shabbatot of the school year from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. Students begin learning t’fillah (prayer) skills, starting with Shacharit. They move at their own pace and can advance to other skills, such as Kabbalat Shabbat, Torah Service, and Musaf. Students also learn their Haftarah and Torah cantillation on Shabbat mornings during TaRBuT. Six to nine months prior to their ceremony, B’nai mitzva students meet for classes every Sunday from 9 to 11 a.m., where they begin learning their individual Torah portions and participate in other important training. Shabbat Enrichment Program — At Beth Jacob, enhancing Shabbat is one of our core congregational values. For children, we accomplish this through Shabbat Enrichment, focusing on participation in T’filah, prayer, and study of Torah. Shabbat Enrichment students begin their morning with their families in the weekly Shabbat service and then join their peers and teachers during the Torah service.

Avos U’Bonim (Father and Son) is an ongoing winter program on Saturday nights. Everyone is either a father or a son, who partner together to combine Torah study with inspirational stories. The kids (and adults) love it.

BNOS is a program for girls in pre-kindergarten through grade five. Each week, on Shabbos, they enjoy an hour of fun and learning together. Activities include singing, stories and a variety of games. The girls enjoy socializing and learn a great deal about mitzvos, Shabbos, holidays and the weekly Torah portion.

At JCS’ Once-a-Month Sunday School, children (ages 3-16) learn about Jewish arts, holidays, history and traditions (like tikkun olam). The two components that make up our formal education program, the Rabbi Bernard S. The 9th Grade Kallah Program consists of a variety of events designed to help teens become adult members of the Jewish community. In the fall the program centers on learning about needs within Temple Israel and educating the teens so they can serve their community. The themes cover Jewish views of death and dying, lifelong Jewish learning and Hebrew and pikuach nefesh — the value of saving a life. Following study in all three areas, the teens select one service project tied to these themes. Through the rest of the school year, there will be a range of programs that will help the teens grapple with issues including making life choices from a Jewish perspective, social action and social justice, personal theology, interfaith issues and identity building.
